Midwives are involved in all aspects of maternity care, such as pregnancy, birth and child-bed offering support to mothers in a period of profound change. The focus of a midwife’s work is to look after and, ideally, to strengthen the health of mother and baby.

The midwifery course at hsg leads to a Bachelor of Science degree and is characterized by sound theoretical training closely linked to practical teaching. Vocational training as a female or male midwife is an integral part of the course and ends with a state examination after six semesters. Work placements are offered both in the clinical and in the extraclinical fields whereas theoretical and specialist training take place at the University.
