Welcome to the website of the Department of Applied Health Sciences!
The Deapartment of Applied Health Sciences is shaping the future of the health care professions on the basis of exceptional study conditions, cooperation with excellent partner institutions, innovation, research and transfer as well as interprofessionalization and networking within the health care sector.
Special feature: Dual degree
The special feature of most bachelor's programmes is that they incorporate vocational training (apprenticeship) with a state examination.
Therefore, students attain an academic degree and a German state-approved vocational qualification at the same time.
This applies to the following bachelor's programmes:
- Midwifery
- Occupational therapy
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Physiotherapy
The master's programme Applied Health Sciences focuses on current and innovative health care topics including health promotion/prevention.
Among other things, emphasis is placed on evidence-based methods and interprofessionalism.

Information on cooperation with the Department of Applied Health Sciences in practice, teaching and research
The department provides opportunities for cooperation in practice, teaching and research.
Practical training periods of varying duration are completed depending on the respective course of study. In cooperation with partners from the field of practical health care, we organise the transfer of knowledge between theory and practice. Practical institutions that cooperate on a long-term basis gain the status of official cooperation partners.
Moreover, we provide regular training and similar courses for the transfer between science and health care practice.

Research at the Department of Applied Health Sciences
The research conducted by the department contributes to the improvement of health care in regional, national and international cooperation with excellent partners.
One main focal point is the further development of the health care professions through demand-oriented, evidence-based, efficient, effective and innovative care for expectant mothers and mothers, clients and patients.
Main emphasis is placed on health, quality of life and well-being over the entire life span.
In particular, they address key social meta-themes such as child, female and family health, demographic change and the digitization of health care.
The practice-oriented interlinking of research and teaching in the degree programmes is a central theme.
