General information
Prof. Dr. habil. Prof. h.c. Daniel Belavy completed his PhD in the field of Rehabilitation Science and Electrical Engineering at The University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, in 2007 and his thesis was included in the "Dean's List" for the top theses in that year. In 2007 he was awarded a 2-year post-doctoral fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in Germany to continue his work at the Center of Muscle and Bone Research at the Charité - Universitätsmedzin Berlin and was later leader of the spaceflight-physiology group within this research centre. From 2014 to 2021 he was Associate Professor of Exercise and Musculoskeletal Health at Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia and has an honorary full-professor position from Deakin University from October 2021 to October 2024. In November 2021, he completed his Habilitation at the German Sports University Cologne.
Prof. Belavy has published over 140 peer-reviewed full journal publications, has received in excess of 5.3 million Euros external research funding (3.6 million Euros for his institutions), supervised 9 doctoral students to completion. Currently he is Associate Editor for the Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy and BMJ Open Sports & Exercise Medicine and has regularly given radio, television and print interviews.
